Introduction to Permanent Makeup

You have probably read about or seen on television the topic of permanent cosmetics, also known as Micropigmentation. It is used to enhance facial features and as a finishing touch to surgical procedures. The procedure involves a needle, which inserts pigment under the skin.

The benefits of this exciting procedure are being discovered by more and more women. The mature woman with poor eyesight and unsteady hands find this most beneficial. Women who travel, swim or camp like the freedom of looking their best even under the most active conditions. People with disabilities, individuals with allergies and the busy (working) woman wants to look their best. What could be better than to wake up looking as good in the morning as you did in the evening?

After surgical procedures, permanent color can be used to camouflage scars or to create the illusion of areolas and nipples after breast cancer or reconstructive surgery. Men may want permanent color to give the look of fuller eyebrows, to mask the effects of slight balding or to camouflage scars.

Whatever procedures are desired, permanent color can create a polished look that is subtle and natural. Because it is permanent, many women choose to have this natural look and then add to it with traditional makeup for a more dressed up evening look.

Modern permanent makeup is fairly recent, but the concept dates back to ancient EGYPT. Over the last 10 years the industry has grown rapidly in popularity.

Prices in Orange County range from $300-$600 and in Los Angeles/Beverly Hills from $650 to $1500 for a single procedure. But don't choose a technician based on price alone. Base your decision on their competence, not on bargain basement prices.

A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area, then Permanent makeup is applied with a pen-like instrument. Any discomfort you may feel is tolerable and short-lived.

Women who would like to "always look their best" and desire the freedom and convenience from daily makeup application will love permanent cosmetics. Permanent makeup is essentially cosmetic tattooing.

Who Would Benefit from Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is for people who:

  • Have unsteady hands
  • Have little or no lip color
  • Have sparse or no brow hairs
  • Are allergic to regular makeup
  • Have asymmetrical lip borders or thin lips
  • Can't see as well to apply their makeup
  • Want to wakeup every morning with a perfect face
  • Are tired of their makeup smudging, smearing or running
  • Have had scarring due to surgery and trauma to skin tissue
  • Are athletic (cyclists, swimmers, runners or people who do aerobics) and are tired of perspiration smearing their makeup

Are you tired of throwing away good money on makeup that never lasts? Are you getting tired of all the time and trouble involved with conventional make up? Then read on:

Initial Consultation & Procedure

At the consultation, your technician will evaluate your facial features, skin tone, and eye color. You likely will be asked about your expectations and goals for permanent makeup. Medical history, consent, and pre/post procedure instruction forms should be provided. All forms should be completed prior to the procedure date. Pigment colors will be discussed, selected and photographs taken. Individuals with medical conditions that may be of concern during and after procedures, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood-clotting problems, auto-immune conditions, or the tendency to form scaring, or fever blisters (for lip procedures) will be asked to consult with their doctor before undergoing a permanent makeup procedure. Permanent makeup candidates must also have healthy skin to achieve the best results. Overly tanned skin may not be the best canvas for permanent makeup, as the skin may be tough.
